Emma and I have been friends since kindergarten. We grew up together, went through high school together, and she's been there for just about every big moment of my life. So when Noah proposed in February, it only felt right that she'd be there for this one too.
Why I Chose Emma
Honestly, I was nervous about wedding planners in general. I had this fear of sitting across from someone who would nod along, hand me a checklist, and slowly steer me toward the same wedding they plan every other weekend. I didn't want to be put in a box. I wanted our wedding to feel like us!
With Emma, I never had to worry about that. I've known firsthand for most of my life how artsy and creative she is. She's the friend who always had the most beautiful handmade cards, the one who could turn any space into something special. But more than that, she's a genuinely great listener.
My Voice of Reason
As a bride that’s a tad scattered, I had about 400 ideas for our wedding. Color palettes, centerpieces, music, drinks, timelines… the works! Dreaming it up was the easy part for me. Actually narrowing things down, making final decisions, and getting started? That's where I'd get stuck.
That's exactly where Emma came in. She never once made me feel like my ideas were too much. Instead, she'd listen to all of them, help me figure out which ones I loved most, and then turn them into a real plan with real next steps. She broke everything into small, doable pieces so I never felt overwhelmed, and she gently kept us moving forward when I would have kept brainstorming forever.
On top of that, Noah and I weren't even living in the same place during most of planning. I was in Oklahoma City for the summer, Noah was working full-time in Kansas City, and the wedding was in Northwest Arkansas. Emma kept all of those moving pieces organized so we didn't have to.
My Advocate
Not everything went smoothly behind the scenes. As planning went on, we ran into issues with our venue. Some of the things they promised when I first toured weren't being honored anymore. That was stressful and disappointing, especially when you've already fallen in love with a place and built so much of your vision around it.
Emma stepped in as my constant spokesperson and advocate. She kept track of what we'd been told, followed up again and again, and stood firm on getting what had been promised to me from the beginning. She handled those conversations with so much professionalism and grace, and she never let it become my burden to carry.
Having someone in my corner who cared about my day as much as I did made all the difference. I didn't have to be the bad guy. Emma had my back every single time.
Saving the Day (Over and Over)
The wedding day itself came with a couple of surprises, and Emma handled every one of them so smoothly that I barely knew anything was happening.
The heat. You'd expect late September to be pleasant, right? Not this time. It ended up being 98 degrees on our wedding day, with an outdoor ceremony and so many of our flowers set to be outside. Emma made the call to keep the flowers inside, out of the heat, until the very last minute. Because of her, they held up beautifully all day and looked just as fresh in our photos as they did that morning.
The no-shows. Some of my extended family RSVP'd yes but didn't end up coming. With 200 guests and a seating chart we had worked so hard on, that could have left awkward empty seats and scrambled tables. Emma quietly reworked the seating so everything still looked full and felt intentional. Our guests had no idea, and honestly, neither did I until later.
If You're Thinking About Hiring Emma
If you have a million ideas and don't know where to start, hire Emma. If you're worried about being put in a box, hire Emma. If you want someone who will listen to you, fight for you, and quietly fix every problem before it ever reaches you, hire Emma.
She gave me the freedom to actually enjoy my wedding day. I didn't spend it worrying about flowers wilting, empty chairs, or anything else. I got to be present, soak it all in, and marry the love of my life.
Emma, thank you. From kindergarten to my wedding day, you've always been one of my favorite people, and now you're also the reason I have the most beautiful memories of the best day of my life.
